Is it easy to get a job in Canada? If not, why is this country welcoming the immigrants?

That is a fanstastic question. Probably good marketing by the Canadian government. You should pose your question to them directly.

Earlier this week, I was in a cab from the Pearson airport to home. The taxi driver was from Haryana in India and has been here for five years. He had finished his MBA from Australia before migrating to Canada. As with most other immigrants, he is having a tough time finding a well paying white collar job that he likes. He had been into insurance sales back home but no one would hire him here because of his lack of Canadian work experience or qualifications.

His wife had done her MBBS from India and had been a practising doctor back home. After five years in Canada doing nothing, she recently finally landed a job as a ‘research assistant’ in a Pharmaceutical company.

Ironically, this is the third taxi driver I met who had an MBA from Australia. I’ve also met taxi drivers who were doctors and accountants, civil engineers and dentists, who all had the same complaint - they were not aware of how tough it would be to find professional work here. Filling out pages and pages of immigration forms that led them to believe that Canada values their education or work experience. The truth is of course that it’s not.

HOWEVER…

then there are also people like me who do not have very high qualifications but bring with us a niche skill that gets us gainfully employed.

It is my perception that Canada is in need of butchers, tailors, plumbers, construction workers and other handy persons more than engineering and medical graduates.
